SOAP Payments builds AI-native infrastructure for modern global payments. Our platform helps merchants, processors, and financial services companies manage payment routing, compliance, risk, subscriptions, and operational workflows across cards, bank rails, stablecoins, and crypto.

We’re building for a changing payments landscape—one where AI can take on more of the work that has traditionally depended on manual reviews, spreadsheets, portals, and support queues.

About the role

We’re looking for an AI Automation Engineer to help build and improve AI-powered workflows for SOAP’s products and operations. You’ll work with engineers and partners across payments, operations, and compliance to find repetitive or error-prone work and turn it into dependable automation.

This is an individual contributor role with room to take ownership as you grow. You’ll contribute to production systems, connect APIs and data sources, and apply AI to tasks such as document review, operational triage, and support. You’ll help ensure these workflows handle exceptions well and respect the controls required in payments.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain AI-powered automations for payment operations, onboarding, reconciliation, disputes, and support workflows.
• Connect internal systems and payment partners using APIs, webhooks, and data pipelines.
• Help automate document review, information validation, and follow-up requests for merchant onboarding and underwriting.
• Develop workflows that identify exceptions and route them to the right person or system.
• Evaluate AI workflow quality and reliability; use human review and safeguards where appropriate.
• Monitor automations, investigate issues, and improve them based on real outcomes.
• Document your work and collaborate with engineering, product, and operations teammates.

You may be a good fit if you

• Have built scripts, integrations, AI workflows, or other automations—through work, projects, or equivalent practical experience.
• Are comfortable with a programming language such as Python or TypeScript, and can work with APIs, JSON, and SQL.
• Are curious about applying AI to real workflows, and know that useful automation needs clear checks for mistakes and edge cases.
• Like understanding a process before automating it, including how it can fail and how exceptions should be handled.
• Communicate clearly and can break a larger problem into manageable steps.
• Care about building dependable systems, especially when money, customer data, or compliance processes are involved.

Helpful experience

• Familiarity with payment concepts such as authorization, settlement, payouts, disputes, reconciliation, or chargebacks.
• Experience with LLMs, document processing, AI agents, or human-in-the-loop workflows.
• Familiarity with workflow tools, event-driven systems, queues, or third-party integrations.
• Experience working with operations, compliance, or customer support teams.
